Vetiver is known as the “oil of tranquility” in India and Sri Lanka, where it has been used for thousands of years to cool the body, calm the spirit, and protect against negative forces. Its deep, earthy roots — which can grow up to three metres into the ground — made it a symbol of unshakeable stability and connection to the earth. In Norse tradition, the earth itself was sacred: the body of the giantess Jörð, mother of Thor, from whom all strength and grounding flows. Vetiver carries that same energy — the power of deep roots, steady ground, and a mind that cannot be easily moved.
